We should all get FREAKY.
You know, coming in, I definitely had something to say.
I don’t know what it is anymore.
Not that it really matters because there’s only three things that are important about Koda Kumi‘s latest PV, FREAKY.
1) Koda should never go vamp/yankee. She just looks bad with a regent hairstyle (though it isn’t really a regent), and with her hair done up like that in general. At least have something hanging from the sides; it makes her face look more shapely, especially since she has a tendency to skew her mouth to the sides. But add in the fact that her neck is covered up, she’s got puffy-ish sleeves, the hair is whitish-blond and only goes to her neck, and it makes her look old. Hot and old, because the outfit really doesn’t look bad on her, but old. (But I did appreciate the many shots of her legs, thank you very much. Really.)
2) On the other hand, she is beyond hot when looking boyish. Seriously. Korean boybands couldn’t make short blond hair look this good. Hell, Hamasaki Ayumi didn’t make boyish look this good and she did it back in 2001. I’ll be taking a few fashion tips from this video, yes.
3) This song is far more addictive than it should be. I stopped listening to Koda shortly after the release of BEST ~second session~, because the literal stream of releases got to be a bit more than I could handle, and because the songs just didn’t suit my taste.
FREAKY reminds me a lot of her DVD-single Selfish, though. Whether it’s the setting of the video or just the general composition of the music. And the clash between genders is reminiscent of Hot Stuff. In other words, a combination of something I already liked of hers and have continued to like.
The PV works perfectly, too, without being oversexed. You certainly don’t see much of her body – and just her legs doesn’t count. If anything, all the sexiness in this video is due to the attitude and confidence Koda radiates. And the whole rebelling thing.
Wait, you know what, let’s make that four.
Whoever did the detailing on her eyes? Gorgeous. Especially with the spurt of blue eyelashes on the bottom. If nothing else, no one can deny avex is doing right for Koda’s physical appearance. (Reputation? Pssh. Who needs it?)
